Unclean.......unclean.......

PP and I have both been feeling a bit under the weather the past two days. What started off as an annoying tickly, sore throat has developed into a persistent chesty cough, intermittent sneezing, snuffling, headachey and generally feeling as rough as a badger's bum.

I checked my symptoms on the NHS helpline and the helpful advice was to call my GP. However as everyone knows, short of requiring immediate medical intervention, GP's are not returning calls and are all barricaded inside their surgeries caressing their personal stocks of Tamiflu, Blofeld-like.

PP had to go to our GP surgery earlier this week to collect a routine repeat prescription and there was a large sign on the door saying that anyone who suspects they have swine flu to just go away and ring the NHS helpline number and UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES to set foot in the building.

So that's all right then.

I'll just snuggle up on the sofa with Small Dog, who has requested a surgical mask so that she doesn't pick up any of our germs. I was hoping for a bit of canine TLC, or at the very least a touch of 'healing paw' but I expect that's out of the question.

Finger bulletin..............

I received an email today, taking me to task not posting an update to the burnt finger debacle earlier this week.

Apologies to all who may have been wondering whether I have succumbed to gangrene, septicaemia, amputation etc.

As you can see I am still (relatively) in one piece, and although my poorly finger is still a bit sore around the blister, it has thankfully escaped major medical intervention.
However, as a touch typist, I use all my fingers, so having even one out of commission renders me incapable of using a keyboard as I can't bear having to 'hunt and peck' with two fingers.

Hence the hiatus.

That, and having to catch up with a massive amount of work, getting orders completed and despatched, preparing the latest home workshop pack etc etc.

The good news is that we have, just about, cleared the decks of the most urgent 'stuff to do', which leaves only the marginally less urgent 'stuff to do'.

Many thanks to all who posted or emailed offering their good wishes following my industrial injury. I have considered initiating litigation against myself under the Industrial Injuries at Work Act, for running a workplace woefully lacking in adhering to safety in the workplace procedures.

Note to self: Must do better and tighten up on Health & Safety.

Third degree burns..........

I did a very stupid thing yesterday.

I managed to insert a hot, sharp wire, covered in molten hot glue, under a fingernail.

OUCH doesn't even come close.

Despite dousing the finger in icy water, it has blistered badly, although thankfully the searing pain, which persisted for 6 hours, has mostly subsided, and at least I can use my hand again now.

Stupid, STUPID woman.........

EDIT -I really tried to find a funny image to accompany this post, but apparently third degree burns are nothing to laugh about.

Who knew?

So instead I decided to go with the PainGuinn.

PainGuinn.......geddit?

WANTED......Ark

Just had another thunderstorm and torrential downpour, albeit brief.

Listening to reports on local radio station prompted me to visit our local online newspaper where I discovered that parts of Hastings have been five feet under water.

5 FEET!!!!

As the headline so succinctly puts it......FLOODY HELL!

Thankfully, we don't have to do a post office run today as this is the road we go past en route.......

Monsoon season.......

We had a drop or two of rain in the early hours of this morning.

Rain of biblical proportions.

Apparently.

Although I was vaguely aware of the thunder and the torrential downpour, it didn't fully rouse me from a very deep sleep, so it was left to PP to monitor the rising waters.

Despite the fact we live at the top of a steep hill, our garden also slopes steeply up from the house towards woodland. It was down this bone-dry slope that the rains cascaded, turning the steps into a waterfall of such ferocity it rivalled the Reichenbach Falls.

The rainwater cascaded down our shingle 'beach' area and flowed over the top of the retaining wall, adding to the volume of water already on the patio.

Within minutes the patio was beginning to flood, although thankfully it slopes away from the house so we were spared the misery of water pouring into the kitchen and lounge. The shed in the corner of the patio wasn't so lucky, and there is currently a small lake in there.

Unbelievably, the water has almost all gone from the patio now, although a 'tide mark' on the planters shows that it rose to 6 inches!!!

Upside is that at least the vegetable plants won't need to be watered by hand today.

Slightly damp steps which only hours before had resembled a waterfall in full spate!

Meh.................

I have so much work to do I don't know where to start.

So I'm just popping out to the model shop for some special paint and glue.

That should take up a good 40 minutes then I'll get stuck in when I get back.
